A Letter to the communities we serve

At Carey’s we uphold the U.S. Constitution, and we salute and serve military, law enforcement, and law-abiding citizens who exercise their right to bear arms. We also salute those who today are exercising their right peaceably to assemble by gathering in protests to seek justice and equality under the law.

Both of these rights are cornerstones to our democracy.  On the other hand, destructive rioting, vandalism, and looting are in contradiction to these rights.  These acts detract from and discredit the message being voiced by those who are protesting.

Public safety is essential if we are to move forward from here as an open, democratic society. To this end, a strong, intelligent, well-trained and well-funded police force is part of the answer, not the problem. Never has the need been stronger for cities to recruit and retain the best and the brightest among their police corps. And to do so requires community support both public and private.

Effective police training is critically important – including tactical training, threat assessment, and how to de-escalate a threatening situation. Carey’s is proud to serve law enforcement agencies nationwide in this endeavor.

What happened in Minneapolis bears no resemblance to proper law enforcement. Carey’s applauds the efforts of just law enforcement agencies in communities nationwide. Their service and mission are essential if we are to heal as a society and move forward.

As citizens in a free society, each of us must take individual responsibility for our behavior and the consequences of our actions. This demands a strength of character that is fostered by our schools and houses of worship – the institutions responsible for teaching our youth to be moral human beings. Yet tragically missing today is the academic freedom that exposes students to all sides of an issue and teaches them to think critically and defend their ideas through informed (non-violent) debate. The ability to voice one’s point of view – without being shouted down by an angry mob – is essential if we are to build a nation where people will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

The Carey’s Team supports justice and equality under the law.
We stand united against racism, bigotry and hate.
